  • PAC45 Final Presentation with Film Screening, Discussion and Website Launch

Posted on March 6, 2016 8:55 am by Kooj Chuhan - Metaceptive Comment

The PAC45 Young Roots project was concluded with a final presentation of its work, which took place at Hideaway Youth Project in Moss Side, Manchester UK on 26th February 2016.  A film about the youth conference which opened the conference weekend in October 2015 was shown. This was followed by a sizzling discussion about the issues raised and how they relate to young people today. This was followed by the launch of the website and then food was served for all who attended.

  • Garvey Got it Right

    marcus_garvey_mdm

Marcus Garvey the visionary African is one of the greatest man amongst men who’s action against Western aggression and racial abuse formed the rock on which inspired the advanced developments of the black race in the west . The very first time i herd about Marcus Garvey was part of my history at primary school in Jamaica. The way i felt at that age was anger but also  enlightened and inspired in connecting with my African roots. • The father of African film Ousmane Sembene

    ousmaneSembene

I have always been fascinated by Ousmane Sembene, who was originally a writer but he decided to become a filmmaker because he realised most people in Senegal were not literate and couldn’t read his stories but everyone could understand a film.  He is now often seen to be the father of African cinema, a very inspiring figure whose films even now are made primarily for the communities in the parts of Africa that he is concerned about.

  • Black activist Inventor

    activist elijah mccoy

I have never heard of a black activist inventor so the search I typed has discovered this man.this mans name is Elijah McCoy  I have found something interesting about this man from this website:http://www.biography.com/people/elijah-mccoy-9391300

Elijah McCoy was a 19th century African-American inventor best known for inventing lubrication devices used to make train travel more efficient.

    Synopsis

Elijah McCoy was born on May 2, 1844, in Colchester, Ontario, Canada, to parents who had fled slavery. McCoy trained as an engineer in Scotland as a teenager. Unable to find an engineering position in the United States, he took a job working for a railroad and subsequently invented a lubrication device to make railroad operation more efficient. McCoy died in Detroit, Michigan, on October 10, 1929.The story of this man shows what was achieved in difficult times and what was possible given the tool of education.

  • Rosa Parks – The Future

    RosaParkimage

I dream for change. The future is change!

The first time I heard of Rosa Parks was to research some iconic black figures who made a stand for change. She was one of many to stop the hurt, the fear, the treatment of your fellow human being. Look at the  image put yourself in that time, that period, sat down in Rosa Parks seat. The thoughts of the man sat behind. Your own thoughts. The struggles of segregation. Blacks back of the bus whites in front of  the bus.  I dream for change. The future is change! http://rosaparksfacts.com/

  • Remembering our Roots!

    Strength
    Inspiring
    Determination
    Beautiful
    Unity

Why do we need to remember our roots?

I think we should remember our roots because it’s important to know where you come from, what your ancestors did to make us be equal to white people, all the beautiful things they did and also to start spreading the black history through black people views and not white ones. I feel that school’s curriculum doesn’t go into much depth when discussing black history and we should should discuss about other topics than slavery, because there’s more to black people than slavery and also because there’s more to black people than only slavery.

It’s important to know about black history because it gives young black people a sense of self-identity and knowledge of where they come from and also that history is not only about white history.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
